After a full day of failed attempts to solve the puzzle of Niobe Labs, Bungie has opted to unlock the Bergusia Forge and allow all Annual Pass-holding guardians to experience the culmination of the Black Armory quest line. This doesn’t mean that they’ve cancelled the puzzle though, it’s just no longer acting as a gate between fans and interesting new content.

For those who haven’t been following what’s been going on in Destiny 2 lately, players are currently in the middle of enjoying the first installment of the game’s Annual Pass: The Black Armory. With this addition came a choice selection of new gear to earn and new activities to complete, the most noteworthy of which are the Forges. There are a total of four of these horde mode-esque activities scattered throughout the solar system, and dedicated guardians have worked their way through each over the past few weeks in an ongoing effort to craft the game’s Black Armory weapons, all of which have at least one cool ability and can only be obtained by gathering the necessary materials and crafting them at one of these forges. The very last one, the “Bergusia” forge was originally going to unlock after the community solved a series of puzzles. However, that’s no longer the case.

Both Destiny and Destiny 2 have had content locked behind cryptic puzzles in the past, and there’s a small but dedicated portion of the community that delights in solving them. However, large chunks of content have never been locked behind an in-game puzzle before, and the community has proven incredibly adept at solving them in the past. This time was different though. Bungie had said that the final forge and its associated weapons would only unlock after the puzzle was solved, and the community was having a difficult time of it. So they opted to decouple the Forge from the puzzle.

“While coming together as a community to solve puzzles can be fun, setting this puzzle up as a gate between you and new content that you want to play has not been an ideal experience,” they said in a statement posted on developer’s blog. Again though, the Niobe Labs puzzle isn’t cancelled. Those dedicated enough to solve it will be rewarded with both a Ghost shell and a Emblem to commemorate their achievement.

It’s too bad this didn’t work out the way both fans and Bungie had hoped; it was actually a pretty cool idea in theory. Still, the “Bergusia” forge is open now, and Bungie will likely factor what happened here into future events. Keep those eyes up, Guardians!
